Yan’s family moved from China to America in winter 2018. This is the biggest change, as well as the biggest opportunity, that has ever happened to Yan in her life. Olympia is the first and the only place they have ever lived in America. She loves it here so much as her second hometown.

Yan graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree of Art in English Language in China. After graduation, she worked as an international tour consultant helping tourists from all over the world design and budget their tailor-made China tour packages. She received her AAS degree in Accounting in 2021 from South Puget Sound Community College.

Her personal experience tells her it is so important to educate and help people protect and manage the natural resources around us because she saw how people in other parts of the world suffer from air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution and lack of essential natural resources. She appreciates so much that she has the opportunity to support the TCD team working on sustainable environmental goals.

In her free time, she loves cooking and her husband loves gardening. Yan’s husband grows some vegetables in their small backyard, and she is always enthusiastic about looking for or creating new recipes for their homegrown vegetables. They have a dream that one day, they can own farmland here in Thurston County so that they can grow vegetables, herbs and plants, keep some poultry and livestock, and enjoy the life from their farm to kitchen.
