Ashley McBee joined TCD in January 2013 as a part-time administrative assistant.  She supports the staff and programming with a wide array of organizational and collaborative work experience in conservation advocacy and environmental education.  Ashley has performed, and greatly enjoys, both outreach to rural and urban community members and leaders, as well as the more concrete administrative interface needed for effective and successful programming.  Some of the wonderful opportunities Ashley has had to work towards conservation advocacy and education have been at The Little River Watershed Association, Liles Acres Organic Farm, and Blount County Conservation District, all just west of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Ashley was born and raised in the Southern Appalachia region of East Tennessee.  She considers herself deeply connected to and a novice scholar of the cultural and ecological composition in the Great Smoky Mountains area.  She moved to Olympia, WA in 2011 to continue gaining the academic, personal, and professional skills required to work globally in the endeavor to connect individuals and communities to their landscapes, cultural heritage, and natural resources.

Ashley earned her BA in Psychology and Sociology from Maryville College, and recently completed her Master of Environmental Studies degree at The Evergreen State College.   She is excited and appreciative for the opportunity to engage the conservation advocacy community in Thurston County and continue her skill building through her work at TCD.
