Position:
South Sound GREEN Coordinator

As the coordinator of South Sound GREEN (Global Rivers Environmental Education Network), a community-based watershed education program, Anne Mills is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all elements of the program. The South Sound GREEN program includes a summer teachers' institute, water quality monitoring training, macroinvertebrate training, a yearly Student Congress, teachers' assessment retreat, and action project opportunities for students in conjunction with other agencies. Anne is responsible for planning and implementing program events, integrating the GREEN program with other programs of the TCD, developing and distributing promotional materials, and maintaining the financial viability and sustainability of the program. Anne also assists with editing of the Conservation District's TCTV program.

Anne has 14 years of experience as an environmental educator and five years as a special educator. Her BA in Education is from Western Washington University and she received her MS in Education from Western Oregon University.

Anne believes that watershed education provides students with real world learning experiences and connections to the natural area and communities where they live. Students measure chemical parameters as well as biological integrity (by collecting macroinvertebrate - stream bug - samples) of streams in the watershed where they live. They participate in community action projects such as revegetation projects. This proactive educational program not only directly impacts streams, but also builds stewardship into the lives of the area's future citizens.

Anne enjoys gardening, hiking, bird watching and music.
