Sarah has been with the Thurston Conservation District since 2010 and has served as the Education and Outreach Coordinator since January 2011. Her responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the Clear Choices for Clean Water Program
- Coordiating and hosting the South Puget Sound Regional Envirothon
- Managing the Farm Plastics Recycle Program for Thurston County
- Producing Thurston CD's quarterly newsletter: Conversations on Conservation
- Coordinationg Thurston CD Workshops and Events
- Organizing community involvment in the Annual Native Plant Sale
- Serving as Thurston CDs intern and volunteer coordinator
- Providing education and outreach to the community about natural resources managment and Thurston CD services
- Promoting Thurston CD at community events
- Creating educational materials
- Maintaining the Thurston CD Facebook, Twitter and website
Sarah graduated from The Evergreen State College in March of 2011 with her Bachelors in Environmental Science, with a focus in Natural Resources Education. Her coursework included: chemistry, aquatic ecology, education, grantwriting and photography. She has additional skills in outreach, marketing, event coordination, educational material development and water quality monitoring.
Sarah holds positions in other supported organizations and committees:
- Secretary on the Natural Resources Youth Camp Board of Directors
- Thurston CD representative to the local EETAC/EcoNetwork
- Thurston CD representative for the WACD Tech Group
- Thurston CD representative on the Washington State Envirothon Committee
Sarah enjoys being outdoors: camping, fishing, snowboarding, boating and snowmobiling. She is passionate about youth outdoor education and working with rural communities, local food systems and agriculture.
