The district offers a variety of internship opportunities year-round. Internship contracts are tailored to provide the student with more in-depth experience in a range of focus areas and the opportunity to expand knowledge and skills in areas not provided through traditional education. We are committed to doing all we can to make an internship a very rewarding and educational experience. Our interns work closely with staff to complete meaningful and engaging projects that not only contribute to protecting our environment but also look good on a resume!
These positions are unpaid, however a successful full-time 2-quarter intern may be eligible for a $1,000 stipend, upon completion of the contract.

Administrative Assistant Intern
Credits and Hours for this position vary.
The Administrative Assistant Intern will be the primary provider of office support to customers and staff. This position will give the intern essential Administrative Assistance experience, including tasks such as:
- Learning money handling procedures.
- Office supply inventory.
- Preparing meeting minutes.
- Managing TCD’s main office phone line.
- Equipment rental scheduling.
- Organizing and managing all incoming and outgoing mail.
- Using Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
- Providing Administrative Assistance to other staff.
- General office support experience.
After completion of this internship, a performance review and letter of recommendation will be given to the intern to include with resume’/portfolio for future positions.
Education and Outreach Intern
This is a full-time position, preferably for 2 consecutive quarters.
The education and outreach intern will assist the Education and Outreach Coordinator in variety of projects and tasks. Some of these will include:
- Clear Choices For Clean Water Program: Delivering incentives, managing pledge database, attending Clear Choices workshops and other events to promote the Clear Choices Program.
- South Sound Regional Envirothon: Assisting in coordination of the event, preparing Envirothon testing materials, coordinating professional presentations to students, assisting during Envirothon.
- South Sound GREEN: Assist SSGREEN Coordinator in Near Shore Education field trips, restoration plantings and water quality monitoring days, with local public schools.
- Assist with the coordination and delivery of TCD’s Annual Native Plant Sale event. (Held in February)
- Maintaining TCD Brochure supply and outreach materials
- Marketing for TCD workshops, programs and events to Thurston County: press releases, flyer distribution, internet advertising.
- Develop and maintain a TCD Facebook and Twitter account.
Natural Resources Technician Intern
16 Credits or Full Time, Prefer two quarter commitment
Interns will assist TCD Resource Specialist staff in:
- working with landowners to improve management and water quality
- learn to inventory soils, water, plants, and animals
- identify potential sources of non-point pollution
- analyze site data in order to make recommendations for the implementation of Best Management Practices
- write a conservation plan, with assistance from TCD staff
A good driving record and a WA State License is required for using company vehicles.
