1948-2008: Serving Thurston County for 60 years!
This
year we're celebrating a big birthday and we want to invite you to the
party!
Mark your calendar for our Annual Open House, scheduled for
November 5, 2008, 7-9 pm.
The Thurston Conservation District promotes voluntary stewardship among private landowners in Thurston County. Our services are free to the residents of our County. We are committed to finding available resources and coordinating them in a way that they meet the needs of our local community.
The Thurston Conservation District was formed back in 1948 by the residents of the county. Conservation Districts (CDs) are legal subdivisions of state government that administer programs to conserve natural resources. Each District is self-governed by volunteers who establish priorities and set policy. CDs exist in practically every county throughout the United States.
As we move into the coming months and years, we realize that large agricultural land-holding are becoming somewhat a thing of the past in Thurston County. As a result, we are committed to adjusting to the needs of our urban community needs.
Call for Photos!! We're looking for photos of conservation activities between the periods 1948 and 1990.
Do you or your relatives have photos with District staff from previous years?
Do you have photos of local farms as they existed between 25-60 years ago?
May we borrow them for our open house event? (All photos will be returned to you following our event.) If you'd like to share, please contact Kathleen Whalen, Administrator, at (360) 754-3588 ext 114 or email her at kwhalen@thurstoncd.com
